Nicola Legrottaglie is a center back for Catania. He was born on 20 October, 1976 in Gioia del Colle, Italy.
Nicola began his professional career in 1994 after he joined his alma mater A.S. Bari. During the first two seasons at Bari Legrottaglie occasionally appeared in the starting lineup and the club management sent him on loan to Pistoiese. The 1996/97 season was very productive for him as he played 31 matches, meaning practically every match of the season. In the next year Nicola was loaned again to Prato, for which he played 26 matches. After the contract with Prato expired in 1998, Bari sold Legrottaglie to Chievo, for which the defender played until 2003. During the first two years Nicola played for Chievo, until being loaned to Reggiana and Modena in the 2000/01 season, for which he made a total of 36 appearances and scored 2 goals.
In 2003 Legrottaglie entered a new phase of his career by joining Italian giants Juventus. During the first two seasons at Juve Nicola was a key player, until being loaned to Bologna and Siena for the 2005/06 season. There he made a total of 37 appearances. After returning from loan Nicola again started featuring in Juventus starting lineup.
In January 2011 Nicola was purchased by a top-flight Serie A club Milan, but couldn’t fit in the starting eleven and was sold to Catania, which was very interested in the services of such an experienced defender. At the moment, Nicola continues to play for Catania as a key center back.
From 2002 to 2009 Nicola Legrottaglie played for the Italy national team, with 16 caps and 1 goal.
