A Uruguayan footballer Marcelo Nicolás Lodeiro Benítez plays as a midfielder for Botafogo. Lodeiro was born on 21 March 1989.
Nicolás started his career at the local club Barrio Obrero, where he was noticed and scouted by more famous club Nacional. The footballer entered the club’s academy, where he would spend the next four years.
His professional debut for Nacional happened on 19 August 2007 in a match with Fénix. His debut goal was scored in a game against River Plate in the Pre-Libertadores playoff. Lodeiro made a solid performance during the 2009/2010 season helping the squad to reach the semifinal of the Copa Libertadores. After such a success in the tournament, the footballer took the 58th position among the highest scorers of the world.
In January 2010, a contract with Ajax was penned. The footballer was assigned with the team number 18. Lodeiro made his debut for the new team on 7 February 2010. He came as a substitute in a game with FC Twente. He netted his debut goal for Ajax on 25 March 2010 in a match against Go Ahead Eagles. Altogether, he made 21 appearances scoring 2 times. In 2012, a deal was finalized with Botafogo.
Lodeiro also has some international experience performing for the Uruguay U-20 team from 2008 to 2009. The footballer scored 5 goals in 11 games for the national squad. In 2009, the player earned his first cap for the full side of his motherland.
