Niki Mäenpää is a goalkeeper of VVV-Venlo. He was born on 23 January 1985 in Espoo, Finland.
Niki’s career took off in FC Kasiysi, but the footballer did not stay there for long and soon transferred to HJK, where he got an opportunity to become a senior player. In 2003, French side Lens secured the services of the young talent, who made only 17 appearances during three seasons (mostly as a sub). In 2006, Mäenpää was sent on loan to Telstar, but did not manage to come on the field during his temporary spell.
The same year, Niki finalized a move to Den Bosch on a three-year deal and took part in 67 games for the club. In 2009, the keeper transferred to Willem II and made encouraging display in 18 appearances during two years, which helped him to seal a deal with one of the top-flight Eredivisie clubs. In 2011, Mäenpää penned a contract with AZ, but failed to take a regular place between the posts, which resulted in his moving to VVV-Venlo on a three-year deal.
The goalkeeper’s début for the Finland national team came on 2 June 2008 in the friendly against Belarus. Niki was capped nine times for the full national squad and made everything possible to become a first-choice goalkeeper. Besides, the footballer took part in 13 games for the U-21 team.
