Niko Kranjčar is a Croatian midfielder under contract with Dynamo Kyiv. He was born on 13 August 1984 in Zagreb, SFR Yugoslavia.
As a youngster, he played for Dinamo Zagreb. In his teenage years Kranjčar was often compared to the legendary Zinedine Zidane due to his creative threat and clever movement. However, his conflict with the club management led to an unexpected transfer move to Dinamo’s arch enemies Hajduk Split for a fee of €1.5 million. Following the 2006 World Cup, Kranjčar joined Portsmouth for a transfer fee of £3.5 million on 31 August 2006. On 1 October 2006 he played his debut league match against Tottenham Hotspur. On 31 March 2007, Kranjčar scored his debut league goal in a 1-1 draw against Fulham. He registered 24 starts and scored 2 goals during his debut season at Portsmouth. From 2006 to 2009 he made 83 appearances and scored 9 goals for the side.
On 1 September 2009, Kranjčar was transferred to Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of around £2.5 million. Kranjčar debuted for Tottenham in the 1-3 defeat to Manchester United, coming on as a substitute. On 26 September 2009 Kranjčar made his debut in the the starting lineup in the 5-0 home crushing of Burnley. On 4 October 2009 he managed his first goal for the club in the game against Bolton Wanderers. On 20 March 2010, Kranjčar netted the winner in the 2-1 battle against Stoke City. During his three-year spell at the club he featured in 72 games and scored 11 goals.
On 6 June 2012 Niko Kranjčar switched to Dynamo Kyiv for a transfer fee of £7 million, signing a four-year contract.
However, in 2013 Niko rejoined his former manager Harry Redknapp at QPR.
On 18 August 2004 Niko made his senior debut for Croatia in a friendly against Israel. From 2004 to 2012 he won over 79 international caps and scored more than 15 goals for the national team.
