Nikolay Mihaylov is a goalkeeper of Verona. He was born on 18 June 1988 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Nikolay’s youth career took off in local Levski Sofia, where he trained in the academy and performed for the youth team of the club during several years.
In 2004 Mihaylov was offered to pen his first professional contract. In the summer 2004, the footballer sealed a three-year deal with Levski.
However, the keeper did not get an opportunity to play in the main team as a regular despite his confident performance in a number of matches. Nikolay managed to make only 12 appearances during three years for the Sofia side squad.
In 2007 English side Liverpool secured Mihaylov’s services and put pen to paper of a three-year contract with the footballer. However, the player failed to get a work permit and was sent on loan to Dutch side Twente, where he spent three years. Nikolay was a second-choice goalkeeper of the temporary team and featured only in six games during his spell.
Mihaylov fitted Twente perfectly, and the management wanted to see the solid and secure keeper in their fold. In 2010 the Dutch side squad bought Nikolay and let him come on the field more often. The footballer made 82 appearances for the club by the summer 2013 and switched for Hellas Verona, recently promoted to Italian Serie A.
Mihaylov was capped 22 times and netted one goal for the Bulgaria national U-21 team from 2004 till 2008. From 2006, the player has taken part in 24 games for the full national squad.
