Oliver Baumann was born on June, 2 1990 in Breisach am Rhein, Germany.
Till 2000 Oliver was a member of the junior squad of FC Bad Krozingen. Then he moved to the junior team of SC Freiburg. In the season 2007/08 the goalkeeper got to the final of the junior Bundesliga. In semifinal of U-19 championship together with the team he beat FC Köln, and then in the final they defeated VfL Wolfsburg with the score 2-0 and won the junior Bundesliga. In the following season he won the junior German Cup 2008/09, having taken the match against Borussia Dortmund. However, the team didn’t manage to win the championship of the country because it lost in the match with the club from Dortmund.
On August, 8 2009 he made his first appearance as an amateur for the reserve squad of Freiburg in the game against SV Stuttgarter Kickers. That match ended in a 0-0 draw. In that season Oliver was fielded in 21 more games. On May, 8 2010 he made his debut in the Bundesliga appearing in the match against Borussia Dortmund as a first-choice goalkeeper. On June, 10 2010 Baumann prolonged his contract with SC Freiburg till 2014, and after that extended it one more time for one more year.
As an international Oliver was invited to the national U-19 team in 2008 and in all had 4 appearances for it. In a year he moved to U-20 where was capped 2 times, and finally he joined the U-21 squad. For the latter he appeared 8 times altogether.
