Ömer Toprak is a German-Turkish footballer, who has been playing for Bayer 04 since 2011. His career took off in the TSB Ravensburg youth team, but soon Toprak transferred to his club’s local rival FV Ravensburg. He ended his spell in the new club with SC Freiburg move in 2005.
In 2007 Ömer signed his first professional contract and lifted the first trophy in career, winning in the Under 19 Fußball-Bundesliga. The footballer’s début in the main team came in 2008/2009 in the match against VfL Osnabrück. Since then Toprak established himself as a regular, which helped him to take a serious part in the club’s development.
On 9 June 2009, the player was severely injured in a carting accident, when his cart exploded and Ömer suffered serious burns. The injuries were so grave that they could ruin the footballer’s career, but the outstanding power of will and a bit of luck assisted him in returning on the pitch several months later. On 6 January 2010, Toprak took part in the friendly against Elche CF.
On 16 January 2010, Ömer made his first Bundesliga appearance by coming on as a substitute in the 65th minute of the match. In 2011/2012 the footballer was bought by Bayer 04 and signed a five-year contract with the new club.
