Papa Gueye is a Senegalese footballer. He was born on 7 June 1984 in Dakar. He features as a central defender at Metalist.
He started playing football at the age of 6 attending a football group. In 1999 he entered a football school. At the very beginning of his professional career coaches tried featuring the player in different positions – he was both a forward and halfback; however he secured the position of a central defender soon. Papa rightly claims to be one of the best defenders in the Ukrainian Premier League.
In 2008 Papa Gueye was called the best foreign player in the Ukrainian Premier League according to the fans. The footballer also featured for such clubs as Douanes from Senegal and Volyn Lutsk.
In October 2009 he was invited to play for the Senegal national team in a friendly match against the Korea Republic national team. In the summer of 2010 Myron Markevych, the coach of the Ukrainian national team, expressed his wish to include Gueye into the squad having in mind that Papa refused to feature for Senegal. It was only a matter of his citizenship. Anyway in 2012 the defender of Metalist was called up to the Senegal national team.
