A Brazilian footballer Paulo Assunção da Silva was born on 25 January 1980.
Assunção’s professional career started out, when he signed a contract with Palmeiras. He was 20, when he opted to move to the Portuguese club Porto B. He spent the 2000/2001 season with the club netting four times in 36 matches. In 2001, the midfielder rejoined Palmeiras. He appeared 24 times during the spell. In 2002, Paulo signed a contract with Nacional. He debuted for the new club on 23 January 2003 in a match against Vitória de Guimarães.
In 2004, Silva was again hired by Porto. He was immediately loaned out by AEK Athens, after the contract had been penned. In 2005, the midfielder was welcomed back to the parent club, where he managed to turn into the squad’s anchor player. He had some successful runs with the team winning the titles in the Portuguese League. He was awarded with the 2005 Portuguese Supercup.
In 2008, Paulo had his contract bought out by Atlético Madrid. The move proved to be a success with Assunção attaining a victory in the 2010 UEFA Super Cup and finished the runners-up at the Spanish Cup.
In the summer 2012, it was announced that Paulo would become the member of São Paulo FC. In January 2013 Paulo joined struggling Spanish side Deportivo. In the summer 2013 he left the squad.
