In 2007 Péter began his professional career by signing for MTK. The same year the young talent was sent on loan to Liverpool and spent one year there. He did not manage to take part in any of the matches of the temporary club, but the goalkeeper proved to be very promising and skilled. Gulácsi was offered to join the Merseyside club and he accepted the offer in the summer of 2008, when his loan spell came to an end.
After one season with Liverpool, Péter went on loan to Hereford United. The goalkeeper made 18 appearances during half of the season, which became a good career start for him. The loan spell ended in January 2010 and the player moved to Tranmere Rovers, where he spent the second half of 2009/2010.
Gulácsi took part in five matches for the new temporary club and his loan contract was extended for one season in the summer 2010. During the 2010/2011 season, Péter played 12 matches for the club. In the summer 2011 he was sent on loan to Championship club Hull City. By January 2012 the goalkeeper made 15 appearances, which is almost a half of all possible league matches.
Having little chance to feature for the main Liverpool squad the Hungarian keeper completed a move to Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in the summer 2013.
During a year till the summer 2012, Gulácsi received all necessary playing practice in Hull City. From 2007 till 2009 Péter took part in 53 matches of the Hungary national U-17, U-19, U-20 and U-21 teams.
