Philippe Mexès is a center back for A.C. Milan. He was born on 30 March 1982 in Toulouse, France.
Philippe Mexès’ youth career started in 1987, when he entered the local football youth academy. In 1990 Toulouse F.C. scouts distinguished Philippe and invited him to study at the club’s youth academy. For 7 years Philippe played for Toulouse youth teams, until he was noted by A.J. Auxerre youth scouts.
In 1999 the young defender was offered to join the first team of A.J. Auxerre. That was the beginning of his rich career. During his debut season, the young defender was occasionally included into the starting lineup, and by the second season at Auxerre the head coach promoted him to the regular center back position. From 1999 to 2004 Philippe Mexès scored 7 goals in 133 appearances for Auxerre.
In 2004 Philippe’s career skyrocketed as he was signed by the Italian A.S. Roma. The club offered Mexès a permanent spot in the starting lineup as a center back and a beneficial 4-year contract. The transfer cost Roma 7 million Euros. As was promised, right after the pre-season trainings, Mexès was immediately put in the starting eleven as a center back, appeared in 183 matches and scored 11 goals for A.S. Roma.
In 2011 Mexès experienced another great change as he moved up to the north of the country to A.C. Milan. In 2011/2012 season Philippe did not get many chances to get to the first eleven, but after resignation of the veterans such as Nesta and Zambrotta his future in Milan seems brighter.
Starting from 2002 Philippe Mexès has made 23 appearances and scored 1 goal for the French national football team.
