Phillip Cocu is a retired football player, who went in for coaching after retirement. He was born in 1970 and began to play football with amateur teams, before he began his professional career at AZ in 1988. In 1990 he moved to Vitesse but broke his leg shortly after his arrival. Nevertheless he recovered and went on playing for them until 1995. Then Cocu played for PSV Eindhoven and in 1996/97 they were Eredivisie winners, in 1995 they won KNVB Cup. He left them for Barcelona in 1998 and played for the Spanish side until 2004. When he joined Barcelon, Louis van Gaal was the manager and he signed several Dutch footballers and Cocu throughout his stay there made 292 appearances.
He returned to the Netherlands and re-joined PSV Eindhoven. He helped them to win three consecutive Eredivisie titles since 2005, in 2004 they claimed KNVB Cup victory. In 2007/08 he had a spell at Al-Jazira Club in the United Arab Emirates and then he retired. He made 101 appearances for the Netherlands national team.
Cocu became a football coach after retirement and was an assistant manager at PSV and the Netherlands national team. Then he was the caretaker at PSV, guided the youth team and in 2013 was appointed the manager of the first team.
