Pontus Wernbloom is a defensive midfielder who represents CSKA Moscow. He was born on 25 June 1986 in Kungälv, Sweden.
In his teenage years Pontus trained at Herrljunga SK, before moving to Kongahälla in 2001. He played for the club until 2003, when he joined the IFK Göteborg youth team. In 2005 Wernbloom signed a professional contract with the club. During his 2005–2009 spell at IFK Göteborg he made 94 appearances and notched 26 goals, being a regular player of the squad.
In 2009 Wernbloom was transferred to AZ for a fee of €2.5 million, signing a four-year deal with the Eredivisie side. He was a regular starter for the club, playing a prominent role as a central midfielder. During his 2009–2012 stay at the club Pontus featured in 67 matches and netted 7 goals.
In January 2012 Wernbloom completed a move to CSKA Moscow for a transfer fee of €3 million. When Real Madrid and CSKA met in a 1/8 final stage match of UEFA Champions League 2012, Pontus clinched an equalizer in the additional minutes, helping his team to draw one all with the Whites. The Real Madrid players were gutted after conceding a last-minute equalizer against CSKA.
He celebrated his debut for the Sweden U21 squad in 2006, managing a goal in the 12th minute. On January 7, 2007 he was selected for the national team's January Tour in South America, and he debuted against Ecuador on 18 January.
