Joaquim Manuel Sampaio da Silva, commonly known as Quim, is a goalkeeper of Aves. He was born on 13 November 1975 in Famalicão, Portugal.
In 1991 Quim entered the youth academy of Braga where he was trained for three years. During this time he played with different youth teams of his age being one of the best goalkeepers of the club.
In 1994 the young keeper signed his first contract with Braga. Initially Quim was deployed as a substitute goalkeeper. In the course of time the head coach was giving him more playing time which helped Quim to feel more confident and to earn a place of a first-choice goalkeeper. From 1994 to 2004 he featured in 208 games for Braga becoming one of its best goalkeepers ever.
In 2004 the footballer caught the eye of many clubs not only from Portugal but from other European countries. However Quim wanted to stay in his native country that’s why Benfica’s offer appeared to be the most attractive for him and he penned a contract with this Portuguese outfit. His stay at Benfica had its ups and downs. Sometimes Quim was a substitute goalkeeper and sometimes he was an undisputed first-choice. During his six-year spell he played 144 games for Benfica overall.
In 2010 the veteran of the Portuguese football Quim received an offer from Braga where he had started both his youth and professional career. In the summer 2010 he sealed another deal with this club and officially re-joined it. Quim was a substitute keeper but he enjoyed great prestige helping young goalkeepers to develop their skills.
In 2013 he was offered another contract with Desportivo Aves.
From 1999 to 2011 Quim gained 32 caps for the Portugal national team.
