Radek Černý is a retired goalkeeper. He was born on 18 February 1974 in Prague, Czech Republic.
In 1980 Radek joined the academy of local Slavia Prague, where he spent his whole youth career and cruised through all levels of the youth system.
Year 1995 was marked by a new stage in Černý’s life, as he penned a senior contract with Union Cheb. The goalkeeper performed for the club during one season and made 12 appearances for it.
In 1996 Radek drew the attention of various teams from the Czech Republic and nearby countries. His boyhood Slavia Prague offered the footballer a move, and Černý accepted the offer without hesitation as he understood he could become a first-choice goalkeeper, though not at once. After sealing a deal, Radek officially joined the main team of the new club, where he stayed during 12 years. At first, the footballer did not feature in many games and usually made only sub appearances, which really bothered him. However, in the course of time Černý got more playing practice, which resulted in his clinching a regular place. From 1996 till 2005, the keeper made 177 appearances and managed to score a goal for the Prague side club.
In 2005 Radek went on loan to English side Tottenham, where he played as a second-choice goalkeeper and took part in 16 games during three years with Spurs.
In the summer 2008, English side QPR lodged a bid for Černý. The parties agreed a deal in short term and the footballer continued his successful performance for the club up till 2013.
From 1994 till 1996, Radek featured in 11 games of the Czech Republic national U-21 team. From 2000 till 2002, the keeper was capped for three matches of the full national squad.
