Raffael Caetano de Araújo is an attacking midfielder of Brazilian origin who plays for Schalke 04 on loan from Dynamo Kyiv. He was born on 28 March 1985 in Fortaleza, Brazil.
From 2001 to 2003 he played with the juniors of Juventus-SP. Raffael began his senior career at the Swiss side Chiasso in 2003. During his two-year stay at the club, Raffael scored 30 goals in 61 matches. In 2005 the footballer joined FC Zürich. From 2005 to 2008, he made 77 appearances and scored 40 goals for the club.
In January 2008, Raffael signed for the German club Hertha BSC, moving from Zürich for a €4.5 million fee. On 2 February 2008, he made his Bundesliga debut in a 0-3 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt. Raffael scored his maiden goal in a game against VfB Stuttgart, helping Hertha to secure a 3-1 win. During his four-year spell at the club he made 140 appearances and scored 33 goals.
Following Hertha’s relegation to the lower division after the 2011/2012 season, Raffael switched to the Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv, signing a four-year contract. On 28 September 2012, the footballer scored his debut goal in a match against Zorya. In Janury 2013 he was sent on loan back to Bundesliga to join Schalke 04.
