Ragnar Klavan, a defender of FC Augsburg, was born on 30 October 1985 in the Estonian town of Viljandi.
Klavan’s football career began when he was 8. The player made his professional debut for FC Elva at the age of 15. A year later, Klavan moved to Viljandi Tulevik. In 2003, he got an offer from the most powerful club in Estonia, Flora Tallinn, and without hesitation the footballer agreed to join the club, after two years of his successful performances for Tulevik.
In the autumn 2004, Klavan transferred to the Norwegian club Vålerenga for three months on a loan with an option of joining the club for €500,000. The loan agreement was extended until 30 November 2005. Klavan appeared on the pitch in two games for the team.
In the summer 2005, Estonian footballer moved to the Dutch club Heracles Almelo, which was to play a new season in the Netherlands top division. Ragnar netted the first goal for a new club in the match against Roda in the 76th minute on 24 August 2007. Klavan extended his deal with the club until the end of June 2008. During his four-year stint at Heracles Almelo, Klavan made 63 appearances and scored 2 goals.
In January 2009, Klavan was given on loan to the AZ. He celebrated his debut match against Roda on 5 February 2009.
On 2 July 2012, Ragnar signed a two-year contract with a German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg.
