Ramires Santos do Nascimento was born on 24 March 1987 in Rio de Janeiro. Ramires is a Brazilian footballer, who plays for Chelsea as a midfielder.
Ramires made his debut for Joinville in 2004 and in June 2007 he signed for Cruzeiro. During the very first season, Dorival Júnior, the club manager, entrusted Ramires with the leading role in the team and the footballer cut the mustard.
The best year spent in Cruzeiro was 2008, when Ramires became the top goalscorer of the Copa Libertadores and got the Silver Ball as the best attacking midfielder in the Brazilian Championship. At the beginning of 2009, Ramires became one of the best Brazilian League players. Fans call him ‘Kenyan’ for his speed, tirelessness and relentless performance.
In March 2009, Ramires signed for Benfica. CSKA of Russia also wanted the footballer to play for them, but they didn’t take any steps to buy him. Playing for Benfica, Ramires made his debut against Vitoria and lashed a goal at once. All in all he made 26 appearances and netted four times.
In August 2010, Santos agreed on transferring to Chelsea F.C. and signed a four year contract. On 28 August 2010, he made his first Premier League appearance in the match against Stoke City, coming out in the second half as a substitute.
In 2009, Ramires Santos managed to lift the Confederations Cup, playing for the Brazil national team.
