Raúl Albiol was born in 1985. He is a Napoli and Spain national team player.
Already when 9 years of age, much due to connections of his father who used to be a professional footballer as well, the boy joined Benidor CF. In one of the friendly matches where they played versus Valencia CF Albiol displayed himself as a high level player and reliable defender, so Valencia’s coach offered the boy’s father a trial in the club. The trial finished successfully and Raúl Albiol became a fully fledged club’s player.
In 2005, he was on loan in Getafe CF where he obtained the invaluable experience of high level game and returned to his club as one of the team’s main defenders. Moreover, the successful display at Getafe served a reason to be invited to the Spain national team.
Later in 2009, Raúl Albiol became a priority for Real Madrid which was building its squad with talented distinguished players without begrudging money. The transfer cost 15 million euros. Playing for such a super club was not left unattended by the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the player was invited to join the Spain national team main squad. Together with the national team Albiol won gold medals of the UEFA Euro 2008 and 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, the player spent most of his spell with Real on the bench and in 2013 accepted the offer from Napoli.
Raúl is married with two beautiful daughters born in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Raúl says his role model is his former team mate, Carlos Marchena, who was Valencia’s defender as well. According to Albiol, he learnt a lot from this talented player and wanted badly his career to be as successful.
In 2004, Raúl Albiol got into a major car accident on the highway. Raúl was kept in resuscitation for almost 17 days and was between life and death. As a part of the treatment he had several complicated surgeries, doctors had to remove his spleen. Despite all hardships Albiol managed to return to the big sport.
