Raúl Fernández Valverde (born 6 October 1985 in Lima, Peru) is a Peruvian goalkeeper who defends the colours of FC Dallas. He is also a first-team regular in the national football team of Peru. His national team finished third in the 2011 Copa América. His former club Universitario de Deportes is the Torneo Apertura 2008 winner.
Fernández joined Universitario in 2005. He took part in 5 games before the club loaned him to Sport Ancash in 2006. The head coach was impressed by the player’s style of goalkeeping and put him into the starting eleven. Next season Fernàndez took part in 26 official games helping the club to win the Torneo Apertura 2008.
From 2005 to 2010 he played 135 games with Universitario. He became a notable young footballer and drew the attention of international scouts from Europe. In 2010 Fernández penned a contract with OGC Nice. But he joined the club only after a six-month loan in Universitario. He debuted in the Coupe de France game against Toulouse. He also had an impact on the game score by saving a penalty in the cup match against Dijon. Nice won 2-1 and passed to the semifinals.
In January 2013 the Peruvian joined MLS side FC Dallas.
In 2008 Raúl Fernández commenced his international career. He was selected for the national team for the Copa América 2011 and assisted his team in winning a bronze.
