He also won the Brazilian League under the club’s flag two times (in 2002 and 2004). Whilst playing for the team, the footballer was awarded with the 2003 Brazilian Silver Ball.
In 2004, Renato was hired by Sevilla from Spain. He got the taste of trophy-winning, when the club came on top of the UEFA Cup two times in a row (in 2006 and 2007). The squad was twice crowned champions of the Spanish Club (in 2006 and 2009). In 2007, Sevilla became the Runner-up of the UEFA Super Cup and the holder of the Spanish Supercup. Dirnei was an essential player for the squad, making 204 appearances and amassing 26 goals.
In 2011, Renato was snapped by Botafogo, after the deal with Sevilla had been rescinded by mutual agreement.
Dirnei’s international debut for his motherland came in 2003; when he was selected to take part in the 2004 Copa América and the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. Renato won both competitions living up to the fans’ and coaching staff’s expectations.
