René Adler is a football keeper who plays for HSV and for the German national team.
In his teenage years he played in VfB Leipzig. In 2000 he joined the youth team of Bayer 04 Leverkusen. But his real professional career commenced during the 2003/2004 season when he became an established part of Leverkusen reserves for the next three years. In 2004 Adler finished the Landrat-Lucas Secondary School. In May 2006 he nearly had his career ruined by a complicated injury which needed titanium plate to repair it. After a long struggle for fitness René made his debut for Leverkusen against Schalke on February 25, 2007. He appeared as a starter in that match. The keeper`s world-class saves were impressive and he became a first-team regular. On May 8, 2007 Leverkusen`s goalkeeper made his UEFA Cup debut.
For the next few years Adler was a first-choice goalie for the club. In 2009 Leverkusen reached the German Cup final with René in the frame. Bayer became the Bundesliga runner-up in 2011. Soon a serious injury struck the player and he lost his number one spot in the club.
Adler was part of the German U19 and German U21 teams. In 2008 he was included into the final squad for the coming European Championship. On October 11, 2008 he made his national team debut in the World Cup qualifier against Russia (2-1). He was to be the main keeper for Germany in South Africa but a rib injury pulled him out of the tournament.
On May 17, 2012 Adler completed a move to Hamburger SV.
