A Portuguese footballer Ricardo Alexandre Martins Soares Pereira plays as a goalkeeper for Olhanense. He was born on 11 February 1976 in Montijo.
His career started at the local club Montijo, where Ricardo played for the youth teams at first. In 1993, the club’s management promoted the footballer to the main team. Soares had featured in 18 matches before he was scouted by Boavista. He stayed for 9 years with the club, making 154 appearances. When he signed for the team he was an 18-year old inexperienced player and when the spell was finished, Ricardo turned into a full-grown footballer with good future prospects.
In 2003, Soares moved to Lisbon to play for Sporting CP. He almost immediately became the head coach’s choice. His name can be found among the world’s best goalkeepers. The spell with Sporting was lined with 118 appearances.
In 2007, Ricardo penned a contract with Spanish Betis, making 48 appearances for the team. In January 2011, a transfer to Leicester City happened. But hardly had the goalkeeper made 8 appearances, when he was bought out by Vitória de Setúbal. He made a fabulous season with the Portuguese club and moved to Olhanense.
In 2001, Rafael was invited to represent the Portugal national team. The goalkeeper made 79 appearances for the squad.
