Richard Soumah is a Guinean footballer, who currently plays for Brest.
His career took off at the youth department of Rennes, which he joined in 2000 at the age of 14.
When he was 18, he moved to Guingamp, where he spent his last years in the youth system. In 2005 he was promoted to the senior squad of the club. Despite not playing regularly in his first season, Richard started to become a frequent first team player in the following seasons, almost for the whole spell. In total, he spent 6 seasons with the club and made 100 appearances in Ligue 2.
In 2009, Soumah together with Guingamp won Coupe de France, having played 29 matches and netting 4 goals over a course of a season.
In the summer 2009, he was attracting the spying eyes of the talent-scouting clubs, but not every of them were able to pay the quoted price.
On 2 August 2010, Richard finally ended his spell with Guingamp, after a difficult season (17 matches and 1 goal), by moving to Brest, where he was groomed during the following 4 years. His debut for a new team happened on the first day of the championship against Toulouse. Four days later, he was let on the field as a starter.
Despite having a good training during the summer, the place in the starting eleven wasn’t to be given. That’s why on 9 January 2012, he was sent on loan to Angers. But his bad shape prevented him from making a good start at the temporary club. He managed to settle into shape only by the end of the season. These changes helped to put the team back on track.
