Ritchie De Laet is a defender of Leicester City. He was born on 28 November 1988 in Antwerp, Belgium.
In 1994, Ritchie joined the academy of KSK Hoboken and spent four years there. In 1998, Mechelen scouts won the footballer over to their youth system, but De Laet decided to return to his former club in 1999. It took the defender another five years to become more self-confident and draw the attention of various Belgian teams. In 2004, Ritchie moved to KFCO Wilrijk, but ended his junior career in the academy of Royal Antwerp in 2006.
The footballer graduated to the main squad of the club and made four appearances during one season. In 2007, De Laet completed a move to English side Stoke City, where he did not manage to take part in any matches. In 2008, the defender went on loan to Wrexham and featured in four games for the temporary team during six months.
In 2009, Ritchie sealed a three-year deal with Manchester United, but spent most of the time performing on loan. In 2010, the footballer was sent to Sheffield United, where he made six appearances till his temporary move to Preston North End in the summer the same year. In January 2011, De Laet completed a loan move to Portsmouth and took part in 22 fixtures for the club till the summer 2011, when the defender’s services were temporarily secured by Norwich City.
In May 2012, Ritchie put pen to paper of a permanent contract with Leicester City.
In 2009, the footballer was capped four times for the Belgium national U-21 squad and made two appearances for the senior national team.
