Starting his career at FC Albany Creek, Robbie improved his football skills in two sport academies: QAS and AIS.
Kruse’s professional career made quite a good start. In his first match Robbie scored a game-winning goal for FC Brisbane Roar. Soon Kruse netted two more goals in a month, but then, as it usually happens after such stunning success, he put on airs. Robbie started to act defiantly and one day he came to blows near the Queensland nightclub. After that Kruse had high words with the club coach and had to leave his football club later on.
Anyway Robbie did not stay unemployed for a long time. Soon he attracted attention of Melbourne Victory’s scouts. Kruse made his debut for Victory on 13 September 2009 against FC Wellington Phoenix. There he replaced Fabiano in the 58th minute. He netted his first goal for the club on 28 November 2009. There was one more significant event on 16 January 2010: Kruse scored the first hat trick against the Perth Glory. That was a great season for Robbie Kruse: he scored a lot of game-winning goals, but then he did the same mistakes. After another off-field incident Kruse had to quit from Victory.
Anyway later Robbie signed a three year contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf. He featured in 39 matches and then was offered a contract with Bayer Leverkusen in May 2013.
On 28 December 2010, due to his success at Victory Robbie Kruse was called up to Australian national team to participate at the Asian Cup. Already on 5 January 2011 Kruse made his debut against UAE in a friendly match. On 25 January 2011, Kruse scored his first international goal, in the victory over Uzbekistan during the 2011 AFC Asian Cup semi-final. In the end of the competition, Kruse made a substitute appearance and almost scored a header. On national level Robbie Kruse featured in 19 matches and scored 2 goals.
