Robert Almer started his career at Austrian football club Sturm in 1998. He spent there 4 years gaining experience. Then Robert moved to Vienna, where he began to play for the local football club Austria, still at the amateur level.
Professional career of Almer started at SC Untersiebenbrunn. Actually he could not impress football coaches with his results and soon Robert went on loan to Altach and then to Leoben. Almer marked his return to Austria only in 2005. There he continued at the amateur level. In 2008, after two years playing for SV Mattersburg, Robert returned to Vienna, where he played professionally for three years. In 2011 Robert Almer moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf. Two years later he joined Energie Cottbus. In the summer 2014 Almer joined Hannover 96.
On the national level Robert succeeded as well. For instance in 2003 along with the team Almer won bronze at U-19 UEFA European Football Championship in Liechtenstein. Since 2011 Almer has been capped for the Austria national team.
