Robert Zillner is a German footballer of SpVgg Greuther Fürth born on 4 August 1985 in Passau.
Robert’s youth career took off in 1990, when he joined the academy of TSV Wegscheid. Zillner spent 11 years there and moved to TSV Waldkirchen. In 2004 he progressed to the club’s amateur team, but didn’t stay there for too long and switched to SpVgg Unterhaching. Robert became one of the club’s best goalscorers netting 9 goals in 25 matches. Despite the fact that his performance declined soon, the footballer was promoted to the first team at the manager’s insistence. Five days later the German kicked his first professional goal against Wacker Burghausen. During the period from 2008 to 2011, Zillner earned more than 100 appearances and netted 15 goals becoming an undisputed starter for the club. Nevertheless, the contract with Wacker Burghausen soon expired and the player had to leave the team.
That is why SpVgg Greuther Fürth welcomed Zillner into the fold signing a two-year deal with the footballer. For a long time Robert played for the second squad, but on 16 December 2011 he finally made his first team debut in a 5-0 victory over FC Union Berlin. However, after 7 appearances for the main squad, Zillner was forced to put off his securing in the starting line-up due to ligaments tearing in the left knee and was warming the bench for the rest of the season.
Robert hasn’t been invited to the national team yet.
