Roberto Lago Soto was born in 1985 in Vigo, Spain. He graduated from his local Celta de Vigo’s youth academy and played for the senior team as a left defender.
Since 2004 Roberto Lago was called up for the reserve team until 2007 when he joined the first team, playing 33 Segunda División matches. He made his debut in November 2006 in the game against Deportivo de la Coruña.
In the 2009/10 season, Lago faced a competition from Pedro Botelho, but he proved himself as a strong footballer, so that he had the weather gage of Botelho and the latest one moved to the bench. There were speculations around Lago that he could transfer to Sporting de Gijón but soon he was offered to extend his contract until 2013.
After successful career with the club from Vigo Roberto switched to La Liga rivals Getafe.
