Roberto Jiménez Gago is a Spanish goalkeeper of Atlético Madrid. He was born in 1986 in Madrid, Spain, and having graduated from Atlético de Madrid’s youth ranks, Roberto went on playing with reserves.
He made his debut for the first team in a 1–2 loss to CA Osasuna in December 2005. And the 2007/08 season he was loaned to Gimnàstic de Tarragona, where he played in the Segunda Division. In 2008 Roberto joined Recreativo de Huelva on a swap deal, while Florent Sinama Pongolle moved in the opposite direction. The following season he returned to Atlético, where nevertheless he wasn’t a first choice since David de Gea joined the team.
In late January 2010 he was loaned to Real Zaragoza and played there until the end of the season. In June 2010 Roberto signed a €8.5 million contract with SL Benfica, where he played until August 2011, when he returned back to Spain and joined Real Zaragoza.
Roberto helped Zaragoza to avoid relegation twice: during his loan spell and later, when he returned to the team in 2011.
In 2013 he signed a contract with Atlético Madrid but was immediately loaned out to Greek outfit Olympiacos.
