Hernán Rodrigo López Mora was born in 1978 in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 1996 he began his senior playing career at Uruguayan River Plate de Montevideo after he had graduated from the team’s youth academy. He stayed with the club until 1998 and then had short spells at Italian Torino FC and Greek AO Kavala. The 1999/2000 season the footballer spent with River Plate and then had short stints at Colo-Colo in Chile, returned to Uruguay and played for Danubio FC and Racing Club de Montevideo.
From 2002 to 2004 López was a part of Olimpia and they won the 2002 Copa Libertadores and the 2003 Recopa Sudamericana. In 2004 he had a short spell at Pachuca CF in Mexico and in 2005 he came back to Paraguay where he helped Libertad to win Paraguayan Primera División in 2006. In 2007 López returned to Mexico and joined Club América, he helped them to win the 2008 InterLiga.
López moved to Argentina joining Vélez Sársfield for the 2009/10 season and the team won the 2009 Clausura tournament. The following season he played for Estudiantes de La Plata and they became the winners of the 2010 Apertura. The 2011/12 season López spent with Club Atlético Banfield and after that he switched to Club Cerro Porteño in Paraguay.
In the summer 2013 Lopez completed a move to another Paraguayan side Sportivo Luqueño.
Rodrigo López was a part of the Uruguay U20 national team helped them to finish runner-up at the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship.
