Roel Brouwers was born on 28 November 1981 in Heerlen, the Netherlands.
Roel grew up in the youth system of Weltania Heerlen. He stayed at the club for five years and then began playing football at professional level. In 2001 Brouwers joined Roda JC, where he took part in 49 games and scored a goal. In the summer of 2005 the footballer transferred to SC Paderborn 07 for €200.000. From 2005 till 2007 Roel Brouwers made 59 appearances for the team and found the net 7 times. In 2007 the Dutchman moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach, where almost immediately turned into a key defender for the club, earning the supporters’ respect. The contract with the club was signed until 24 November, but soon was extended until June 2014. Roel has played 123 matches, delivering 13 goals for the club, which is a very good result for him.
Brouwers was invited to represent the Netherlands U-21 squad, but didn’t appear on the pitch. He hasn’t made any appearances for the senior squad as well.
