Roman Bednář is a footballer from Czech Republic, currently playing for Sparta Prague. He was born in 1983 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and came through the academies of ČAFC Prague and Bohemians 1905. In 2002, he joined Mladá Boleslav, which was the start of his professional career. There he proved himself a good player and as the top scorer in 2003/04 season helped the team to win the Second Division. In July 2005, Heart of Midlothian signed Bednář and he helped the team to finish second at the 2005/06 Scottish Premier League and to win the 2006 Scottish Cup.
For the 2007/08 season he was sent to West Bromwich Albion on loan and then completed a permanent move. In November 2007, Bednář made his first team debut in a 3-0 win against Watford. He signed a three-year deal for £2.3 million. In May2009, he was suspended for using drugs, then had an injury and wasn’t used regularly. In November 2010, Bednář was sent to Leicester City on loan till January 2011 and the remainder of the season he spent with Ankaragücü.
In January 2012, Bednář moved to Blackpool for half a season and in August 2012 he joined the Turkish team Sivasspor. Half a year later the Czech moved back to his homeland and joined Sparta Prague.
He used to play for Czech Republic at U20 and U21 levels and on 16 August 2006 he made his senior team debut. He was called to the national squad till 2010 and earned 8 caps.
