Roman Gerus was born on 14 September 1980 in the Russian town Tikhoretsk. The young footballer started his professional career in FC Venets Gulkevichi, where he played in 1998-2000, making 49 appearances for the club.
In 2001 the player moved to FC Chernomorets Novorossiysk, where he made his debut at the highest national level. He also managed to get the Man of the Match award the same year, despite the fact, that the game was lost 0-1.
Later he joined FC Luch-Energiya, but spent there only a half of the season and moved to FC Saturn Ramenskoye, where he helped the reserve team to finish third in their championship.
In 2005 Roman returned back and signed full-time contract with FC Luch-Energiya. He helped the team to get promotion to the Russian Premier League, becoming the first-choice goalkeeper. However, he soon lost his place in starting XI due to inconsistent performances.
In 2007 Gerus was transferred to FC Rostov, becoming the Russian First Division Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008. He missed the vast part of the next season due to an arm injury and the management of the club refused to prolong his deal. Later he played in FC Lokomotiv Astana, becoming the captain, but was omitted from the team due to another injury.
In 2011 Roman signed a contract with FC Dynamo Bryansk, where he soon became the first-team goalie, collecting 23 appearances.
The footballer joined FC Amkar on 25 January 2012.
