Roman Neustädter is a German international, born in 1988 in Dnepropetrovsk, Soviet Union. He came through the youth ranks of 1. FSV Mainz 05. Having graduated from the academy he went on playing for the reserve team and spent the 2008/09 season with Mainz 05. In 2009 Neustädter left for Borussia Mönchengladbach, stayed there till 2012 and played for the reserve and the first team. Borussia Mönchengladbach finished the league in the 2011/12 season fourth and competed in the UEFA Champions League. Before the 2012/13 season he left Borussia for FC Schalke 04.
He is a son of Peter Neustädter, a retired footballer. Roman was born in Ukraine, so he had a chance to represent its national team. Nevertheless in April 2008 Neustädter earned his first international cap for the Germany U-20 team in the match against Italy. In November 2012, Roman made his debut for the Germany senior team in the match against the Netherlands, where he appeared as a substitute.
