Roman Pavlyuchenko was born on December 15, 1981 in Mostovskoy, Soviet Union. He currently plays a striker for FC Lokomotiv Moscow and the Russia national football team.
Roman began playing football at the Pobeda Sports School which he left at the age of 14 to join the youth system of FC Dynamo Stavropol. In 1998, Dynamo Stavropol offered Pavlyuchenko his first senior contract.
Yet, the budding striker didn’t have to stay long in this second division club and in 2000 made a move to the high-flight FC Rotor Volgograd. This club was the footballer’s place of employment for two following seasons and Roman did quite a good job there scoring for the squad 15 times in 67 games.
In 2003, Roman Pavlyuchenko signed for FC Spartak Moscow that paid €700,000 to buy out the player’s transfer. On March 15, 2003, the striker made his debut for this big-name Moscow club in the game against Torpedo-Metallurg (today’s FC Moscow) and on March 22, already netted his first goal for the squad in the loss against Alania Vladikavkaz. In Spartak Pavlyuchenko was advancing extremely rapidly and both in 2006 and 2007 he was named the Russian Premier League’s top scorer at the same time becoming the first player of the Red-Whites to be named the tournament top-scorer since the disintegration of the USSR.
In 2008, the striker was capped for the Russia national football squad to participate in UEFA Euro 2008 and became one of the most prominent players of the whole campaign. Then he scored 3 goals and was subsequently included in the 23-man Team of the Tournament.
Such success couldn’t pass unheeded by the representatives of different European clubs but Tottenham Hotspur appeared to be the promptest to award a contract to the striker, the deal being worth £13.7 million. The footballer debuted on September 15, 2008 against Aston Villa and made his first score for the Spurs in the 2-1 League Cup victory versus Newcastle United. Since then the Russian player had scored a number of important goals either in England or on the international arena. In November 2008, he was named the Tottenham Hotspur player of the month. However, though Roman scored 42 goals in 112 appearances, in fact the managers didn’t always shortlist the player in the starting line-up and Pavlyuchenko spent quite a number of matches on the bench.
In 2012, Roman Pavlyuchenko left for Lokomotiv Moscow and on March 3 2012, the striker made his debut in a 2-0 victory against Kuban Krasnodar.
As an international player Roman Pavlyuchenko has been representing the Russia national football squad since 2003.
