Rômulo Borges Monteiro, also known as Rômulo, is a defensive midfielder of Brazilian origin. He was born on 19 September 1990 in Picos, Brazil.
Rômulo launched his youth career at Porto de Caruaru in 2004, where he trained until 2009. From 2009 to 2010 he played with the juniors of Vasco da Gama. And then he signed a professional contract. On 30 June 2010 he made his first-team debut for the senior team in a friendly against Avaí. Rômulo made 88 appearances and clinched 8 goals during his spell at the club. He helped his teammates to win Copa do Brasil in 2011. The scouts of Spartak Moscow chased the young midfielder. As a result of Rômulo’s positive display at Vasco da Gama, the club declared interest in the player’s services. In June 2012, Rômulo was transferred to Spartak Moscow for a fee of €8 million, signing a long-term contract. On 19 September 2012, he scored his first Champions League goal into Barcelona’s net.
On 5 September 2011 the player won his first international cap in a Roca Cup match against Argentina.
