Ron started his football grooming with a hometown FC Köln youth academy, and in 2005 joined Manchester United youth team, where he had 22 appearances already during the first season at the club.
In the 2007/08 season, a young hopeful became a constant member of the reserve squad, amassing 11 games. In spring 2008, Zieler won Manchester Senior Cup keeping a clean sheet, and in July of the same year he shone in the Lancashire Senior Cup final.
At the beginning of the 2008/09 season, a promising goalkeeper was given a place in the first team for the first time ever, making his debut in the League Cup match against Middlesbrough FC. In autumn 2008, the Red Devils loaned Ron-Robert Zieler to Northampton Town FC until 31 December 2008, but then prolonged his spell there for a few months.
In April 2010, Zieler signed for Hannover 96, though initially appeared exclusively for the reserves. But showing enough craft and proficiency, he proved his worth in the first team and was handed the No1 shirt soon.
