Roy Beerens is a striker of AZ. He was born on 22 December 1987 in Bladel, Netherlands.
Roy’s career took off in PSV Eindhoven, where he performed for the youth team before getting fully prepared for joining the main squad of the club in 2004. The footballer was sent to the training camp in South Korea so that he could get ready for his début season. Beerens’s first professional appearance came on 25 March 2006 in the away match against Willem II Tilburg, which his team won 3-0. Roy found the net for the first time in the home 4-1 victory over Roda on 15 October the same year.
On 30 December 2006, PSV agreed the Beerens’s move to NEC and the footballer officially transferred to the new club on 1 January 2007. The striker showed encouraging performance and was offered to extend his contract for another year at the end of the 2007/2008 season.
Roy did not accept the offer and finalized a move to Heerenveen, penning a contract till the summer 2013. Beerens became the anchor player of the team and featured almost in every game, but the 2010/2011 season was not very successful for him, as his level of performance started to gradually descend. That led to the striker’s losing his regular place, which forced him to search for a new club.
In August 2011, the footballer sealed a deal with AZ till 30 June 2015. Roy’s début came on 21 August 2011 in the home 4-0 victory over the striker’s previous club NEC. Beerens made 25 appearances and found the net three times during one season.
The striker’s first international appearance came on 11 August 2010 in the friendly 1-1 draw with Ukraine. One year later, on 8 November 2011, Roy was invited to the friendlies against Germany and Switzerland, where he was used as a substitute for Ajax player Derk Boerrigter.
