Roy Keane is retired Irish footballer. He was born in 1971 in Cork, Ireland. He began to play football with Rockmount A.F.C. and had numerous trials but was turned down. In 1989 he joined Cobh Ramblers and played for the youth team and for the senior one. In 1990 Keane signed for Nottingham Forest and played for them until 1993. He was close to joining Blackburn but switched to Manchester United for £3.75 million. After Bryan Robson fell out with injuries Keane gradually became the team’s regular player. While playing for Manchester United they won seven Premier League titles, four domestic cups, became FA Community Shield winners on four occasions, in 1998/99 they were UEFA Champions League winners and in 1999 they won Intercontinental Cup.
In November 2005 he left Manchester United and in December signed for Celtic and while playing for them he helped to win the Scottish Premier League and Scottish League cup in 2005/06. Keane left Celic after six months and retired as a player. Between 1991 and 2005 he made 67 appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team.
After retirement Keane took over as a football manager and between 2006 and 2008 he guided Sunderland. In April 2009 he became the head coach of Ipswich Town, where he worked until his departure on 7 January 2011.
Since November 2013 Keane has been an assistant coach at the Republic of Ireland national team.
