A Dutch footballer Royston Rickie Drenthe acts as a left defender for the Championship side Reading. Royston was born on 8 April 1987 in Rotterdam.
Drenthe spent his junior years playing for the youth teams of Neptunus, Feyenoord and Excelsior. He started his career when he was 13 at the local club. He had played for various youth squads, before he graduated to the senior side of Feyenoord. In 2007, the defender was hired by Real Madrid, where he spent the longest period of his playing career. His debut happened in a match against Sevilla FC. He scored two goals in 46 matches for the Spanish club and moved to Hércules on a loan spell. The 2010/2011 season was lined with four goals amassed in 17 fixtures. In 2011, the temporary deal was finalized with Everton. Royston made 21 appearances and netted three goals for the club. In January 2013, the defender was hired by the Russian side Alania and scored 3 goals in 6 matches. Half a year later Royston was invited to Reading.
From 2006 to 2008, Drenthe performed for the U-21 squad of Netherlands. Altogether, he appeared 17 times and produced four goals. During that period, he was chosen as a player of the 2007 UEFA European Championship. In 2008, the footballer represented his motherland at the Summer Olympics. In 2008, Royston made a single appearance for the Netherlands reserves. In 2010, he debuted for the country’s full side in a match against Turkey.
