Russell Martin is a defender of Norwich City. He was born on 4 January 1986 in Brighton, England.
In 2003 Martin joined the main team of Brighton & Hove Albion after being its trainee during several years. In the first half of the 2003/2004 season, the footballer did not make any appearances and continued his career in Lewes, where he spent another six months.
In the summer 2004, Russell got firmly established by penning a contract on permanent basis with Wycombe Wanderers. The 2004/2005 seasons was rich for events as the footballer made several appearances both in the starting line-up and as a substitute, because the head coach wanted to watch Martin’s progress without risking the performance of the team as a whole. The following season, the player was let on the pitch in the starting XI more often and eventually clinched the place of a regular. Russell made 116 appearances and netted five goals during four years in Wycombe Wanderers.
In 2008 Martin moved to Peterborough United. The footballer took part in 56 matches and found the net one time till 2009, when the management decided to send him on loan to Norwich City. Russell made only six appearances for the temporary team till January 2010, but that was enough for the head coach to notice the player’s potential. After he was bought from Peterborough United, Martin penned a long-term contract on permanent basis and became the anchor player of defense, which helped his new club to maintain a decent level of performance in the Barclays Premier League.
In 2011 Russell was capped three times for the Scotland national team.
