Ruud’s youth career started in football club Hoorn from his native town. Vormer initially performed as an attacking midfielder, but he made more solid display at the position of a centre midfielder, to where the footballer eventually moved.
Vormer’s professional career took off in AZ, which he joined after graduating from the club’s academy. In 2007 the player penned his first professional one-year contract with the club and made 19 appearances during his first season.
In the summer 2008, Ruud sealed a deal with Roda. The club needed a player like Vormer, who showed stellar performance both in defense and in attack.
