Sascha Riether is a football player from Germany, born in 1983. He came through the youth ranks of FV Kuhbach, Offenburger FV and SC Freiburg. In 2002 Riether graduated from SC Freiburg and was promoted to the first team, playing in the 2. Bundesliga. He helped his side to advance to the top division in his first season with the team and spent five seasons with the club, making 139 league appearances.
In July 2007 he penned a €500,000 deal with VfL Wolfsburg. In the 2008/09 season Riether made 28 league appearances helping Wolfsburg to win their first ever Bundesliga title. He stayed with the team until his move to 1. FC Köln, which was in July 2011.The transfer fee was of €2.8 million. Riether spent there a season, featured in 33 league games but his side dropped from the 1. Budesliga. In the summer of 2012 he was sent to the English Premier League team Fulham. In May 2013 the German signed a permanent deal with the club.
In the summer 2014 Riether returned to Germany and signed for Freiburg.
Sascha Riether was called up to play for the Germany U20 and U21 teams. His senior team debut came on 11 August 2010 in the match against Denmark.
