Sebastian Boenisch is a Polish professional defender currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga. He was born on 1 February 1987 in Gliwice, Poland.
Sebastian began his football grooming in the youth ranks of SSVG 09/12 Heiligenhaus and went on with Borussia Velbert, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Schalke 04 youth teams. In 2005, he signed his first professional contract with the latter club and joined their reserve squad. Boenisch made his first-team debut for the club in a 7-4 victory over Bayer 04 Leverkusen in February 2006. In 2007, he switched to Werder Bremen. Boenisch was part of the squad who won the DFB-Pokal and finished as the UEFA Cup runner-up in the 2008/09 season. In 2012, the defender signed for Bayer and plays there today.
Sebastian Boenisch represented Germany at U20 and U21 levels. In 2010, he was awarded a full cap to the Poland national team in a match against Ukraine.
