Sebastian Polter was born on April 1, 1991 in Wilhelmshaven.
The first years of his career passed in several youth squads. In 1994, he was enlisted by Heidmühler FC. Later he joined SV Wilhelmshaven and spent a season there. In 2004, Sebastian was noticed by the scouts from SV Werder Bremen and moved to Bremen. In 2005, he returned to SV Wilhelmshaven, whereupon was transferred to Eintracht Braunschweig. The last Polter’s youth club was VfL Wolfsburg.
In the season 2009/10, the latter awarded him with his first senior agreement valid till 2012 .The striker first played in the reserve side of the outfit and in the season 2011/12 prolonged the contract till 2014. At the beginning of December 2011 Sebastian featured in the starting line-up and made his Bundesliga debut. A week later he scored in the match against VfB Stuttgart. In the season 2012/13, the player was loaned to FC Nürnberg.
In the summer 2013 he completed a new deal with Mainz 05.
Polter started his international career in the Germany U-18 national team and scored 3 goals in 6 games. Then he passed through the U-20 squad where in February 2012 he appeared in the friendly match versus Italy and netted two goals. In August 2012, he was capped for the U-21 national football squad and debuted in the match against Argentina.
