Sebastian Prödl is an Austrian footballer, born on 21 June 1987 in Graz.
Prödl began his career at the local youth club V Kirchberg, and then joined the SV Feldbach’s youth system. From 2002 till 2005 Sebastian was a trainee at SK Sturm Graz, where he finished his youth career. Thereafter the footballer debuted for the amateur team, where he fired 1 goal in 12 games. On 9 December 2006 Prödl made his senior debut in the Austrian Bundesliga match against SV Ried, which ended in a 0-1 defeat. Five months later he delivered his first league goal and became an indispensable part in defense.
Soon Sebastian took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup and joined German side Werder Bremen for €2.5 million. The Austrian signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2012. His debut came on 9 August 2008.
The player became an undisputed starter at the DFB-Pokal helping his team to win the title. On 16 August Sebastian debuted in the Bundesliga, but soon suffered an ankle injury. On 18 March 2009 Prödl played his first UEFA Cup match against AS Saint-Étienne, where he fired a goal and helped his team reach the following round. After the end of the season he won the DFB Pokal 2008/09 with Werder Bremen, playing in the final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Later Sebastian suffered another injury, this time a serious one, which kept him off the pitch until 11 March. On 2 May 2012 the footballer extended his contract with the club until 2015.
Prödl represents Austria internationally since 2007.
