Sekou Cissé

Sekou Cissé is a striker of Feyenoord. He was born on 23 May 1985 in Dabou, Cote d’Ivoire.

Cissé grew up in a poor Abidjan suburb and began to play football when a child. At first, Sekou knocked the ball about on streets, but at the age of six he joined local Biafra. After the footballer took part in the match against best local club Bibo, the rivals’ management was impressed by his performance and Cissé soon moved to the new academy.

In July 2003, Sekou entered the academy of ASEC Mimosas. After six months of training, the striker rejected an offer of Belgian side Beveren, left the academy and started to search for a new beginning.

In February 2004, Cissé completed a move to Dutch side Roda. On 11 September 2004, the footballer made his competitive début in the match against Willem II. Sekou netted his first goal in the same game, but it did not prevent his team from losing 3-1.

In 2006 head coach of Alkmaar Zaanstreek Louis van Gaal took an interest in the striker and offered a deal, but Roda rejected the bid for Cissé.

The 2006/2007 season had a bad start for the player, because he hit Sigourney Bandjar from RKC Waalwijk. According to the decision of the disciplinary committee, the footballer had to skip four following matches. However, it was that season when striker fired a spectacular goal against Feyenoord, which can be easily called one of the brightest moments of his career.

In the summer 2007, Sekou was injured and lost his regular place to Roland Lamah. After the footballer recovered, he diligently trained so that to regain his position and managed to celebrate a victory in two fixtures – with PSV and F.C. Groningen. However, on 23 January 2008, the player got hamstring trauma in the match against De Graafschap and was sentenced to four weeks without football.

The 2008/2009 season was very fruitful for the striker and helped him to draw the attention of top-flight Dutch clubs like Feyenoord, PSV and Twente. On 5 July 2009, Cissé sealed a five-year deal with the Rotterdam side team.

Sekou made 45 appearances and amassed 12 goals for Feyenoord till October 2012.
