Sergei Semak is a retired Russian midfielder. He was born on 27 February 1976 in Sychanske, Luhansk region, Ukraine.
The footballer’s career took off in a famous football school in Luhansk. In 1993 the footballer decided to get higher education, but soon left the university. However, three years later Sergei returned to get distant education.
At the age of 16, Semak came to Moscow with his Luhansk team and eventually stayed at the capital of Russia. The head coach of Asmaral noticed the footballer and offered him a move, which made his career go forward at a steady gait. It took Sergey about a year to complete a move to CSKA. One month after his début for the main team, the midfielder netted his first goal. Another year later, the player became the youngest captain of the team in the history of Russian football.
In 2003 Semak and CSKA clinched the title of the Russian champion. In 2005 the midfielder finalized a move to French side Paris Saint-Germain, but the things were not going so well and Sergey decided to return to Russia and join FC Moscow, becoming the most high-paid footballer in the country.
In 2008 Semak sealed a deal with Rubin Kazan after the management of the club offered him a long-term contract. During his first season for the new team, the midfielder won the Russian Premier League for the second time and Rubin made the most crowning achievement in its history.
In 2010 Sergey’s services were secured by Zenit St. Petersburg. The player’s impact on the club was huge, as the squad quickly started to pick up golden medals. The same year the footballer returned to the Russia national team and became one of the anchor midfielders.
In 2013, at the age of 37, Semak retired from professional football.
Semak is the only footballer, who managed to win the Russian Premier League with three different clubs (Zenit, Rubin and CSKA).
