A Spanish footballer Sergio Martínez Mantecón plays as a defensive midfielder for Elche FC. Sergio was born on 8 June 1980 in Madrid.
The last years of junior career Mantecón spent at the youth academy of Real Madrid. In 1999, the footballer grabbed a pro contract with Badajoz and his senior career began. At first, he played for the club’s reserve team, but in 2001 Sergio was promoted to first squad. In total, he made 74 appearances and netted one goal for Badajoz.
In the summer 2003, Mantecón penned a long-term contract with Alicante. It was there, where the footballer had the most successful period in his playing career. In total, Sergio made 112 appearances and netted five goals. In the summer 2006, the midfielder was scouted by Hércules. The 2006/2007 season was lined with 21 appearances made.
Sergio would find himself in Ponferradina colors next season. Over the course of that season, he netted four goals in 20 matches. In 2008, the midfielder’s contract was bought out by Castellón. Very soon Mantecón turned into one of the club’s anchor players. He spent two seasons scoring five goals in 68 games for the team.
In the summer 2010, a transfer to Elche took place. Sergio quickly earned the place in the first eleven and started to make quite frequent appearances. Over the course of two seasons, he made 68 appearances and netted three goals.
